Hednesford Town 4 Farnborough 0

Hednesford Town inflicted Farnborough's biggest ever competitive defeat as the romped to a 4-0 home victory at Keys Park on Thursday evening.

On a freezing cold evening Elliott Durrell was the star of the show, scoring a hat-trick, as Boro's unbeaten away record came crashing to an end.

The dinimutive Durrell opened the scoring for "The Pitmen" on 13 minutes, driving through the Boro midfield, before drilling home low to Michael Jordan's left.

Hednesford opened the match at real pace, and that continued through the first period, with Boro on the back foot for long periods of time, only compounded by poor retention of the ball, and wayward passes.

A short corner routine on 17 minutes, created Boro's first opportunity of the game, but Daryl McMahon could only shoot wide as the ball broke for him, and two minutes later Durrell was back in the thick of it seeing his well struck free kick comfortably gathered by Jordan.

The home team continued in the ascendancy, and on 27 minutes Jordan needed to be on his toes as sprinting out of his area to nip in and drive the ball to safety ahead of Barnett.

It was on the half hour mark that the home side doubled their advantage, Barnett proved to be a handful most of the evening for the Boro backline, was sent crashing to ground courtesy of a challenge from James Smith, for which the Boro man was cautioned.

It was that man Durrell again who hit a low free kick across the face of Jordans goal and into the bottom right hand corner.

Half time came and gave the visitors the time to re-group, but the game was all bar over as a contest just two minutes after the re-start as Dorryl Proffit, took advantage of a rare slip from Daryl McMahon and made no mistake, giving the hosts their third goal of the evening.

Farnborough enjoyed a spell midway through the second period, where they took the game by the scruff of the neck, and when Nic Ciardini's cross from the left was headed across goal by Gary Holloway, it created a momemt of concern in the six yard box, but the ball just wouldn't sit down, and the ball was eventually cleared from the danger zone.

With fifteen minutes to go Boro boss Steve King made a double substitution, Andre McCollin and Jack King entering the fray at the expense of Dean McDonald and Simon Wormull, but whilst their introduction gave the team a liitle more balance, they could not make the impact so desired.

With five minutes to go, Kezie Ibe had Farnborough's best chance of the evening, but his well struck shot on the angle was comfortabley dealt with by Brock in the Hednesford goal.

Just three minutes from the end, and Durrell finished the job he started as he lashed home having been smartly played in by Barnett.

There was no complaints that the best side on the evening came away with the points.

Boro boss Steve King commented " We got exactly what we deserved on the night, from 1 to 11 we were collectively poor, Hednesford were far superior on the night and fully deserved the points."

He added " I am disappointed that they did not have to work hard for their goals, as we gifted them three of their four on the night. But we must not get carried away, and put this into perspective, that is our first away defeat in seven months, and only our second league defeat of the campiagn."

Boro do not have long to wait to try and put things right, as they travel to Didcot on Saturday, looking ahead to the game King commented " Didcot travelled to Hednesford last weekend and came away with the points and played out a draw with Nuneaton Town during the week, so we know they can more than hold their own, and we expect another battle".
