| Didcot Town 1 Farnborough 2 |
![]() Farnborough bounced back from the disappointing 4-0 away defeat at Hednesford on Thursday night, with a professional performance at the NPower Loop Meadow Stadium. Boro boss Steve King made a number of changes, two enforced as Simon Wormull who picked up a knock on Thursday and James Smith through illness did not make the sixteen.Jack King a former favourite of the hosts came in for Wormull whilst Steve Robinson rested on Thursday replaced Smith. In a change to the back line Jamie Stevens came in a centre back alongside Robinson, whilst Doyle reverted to left back, seeing Nic Ciardini relegated to the bench. King opted for a 4-4-2 formation, Bradley Bubb dropping to the bench, with Andre McCollin coming in at left midfield, his first start since he commenced his loan from Yeovil Town. Didcot carved open the first chance of the game, former Boro striker Bartley denied by Jack King's intervention, and the resulting corner saw a header sail safely wide of the mark. Andre McCollin enjoying his first start for the club, made some useful forays down the left flank, and on nine minutes he pulled the ball back, which fell to King who was uncerimoniously bundled over in the box,all eyes were at the referee, who waved away the appeals. Boro enjoyed a spell of continued pressure, McMahon's free kick whipped in taking a deflection, hitting Trott in the Didcot goal, rather than saved, and minutes later it appeared that his delivery in from the right was stopped by the raised hand of a defender, not though the view of the referee. On 18 minutes Bartley was adjudged to have fouled McMahon, who piicked himself up and delivered an exsquisite ball into the area, Kezie Ibe finding himself free to head over where it looked easier to score.
![]() Despite the sustained possesion and pressure, Boro could not break through, and just past the half hour mark, Bartley had another chance to put one over his former employers, seeing his shot deflected wide for a corner. Boro though steadied themselves and again took control, and in the final five minutes of the half, created a number of decent openings. Jack King's interplay with Dean McDonald carved an opening for the striker, who opted to shoot when perhaps a return ball to King was the better option, and Kezie Ibe saw his low shot flicked away to safety. Craig Braham-Barrett had Boro's second penalty shout of the half turned away in first half stoppage time, after his pace saw him get beyond the back line he was brought to ground, but not in the view of the referee. Didcot opened the second period brightly, and inside five minutes havoc in the Boro six yard box ensued, as a cross flicked off a Boro defender onto the post, Draycott the quickest to react as he shot rattled against the crossbar, before the ball being spooned to safety. ![]()
The hosts would rue that missed opportunity as on 53 minutes, Jack King opened the scoring, flicking home Daryl McMahons free kick, with a little help from home keeper Trott. ![]() Andre McCollin scored his second Boro goal a fine solo effort, after being gifted the ball, he drove at pace at the Didcot defence and after seeing his initial effort come back off the post, he made no mistake from the rebound.
![]() Credit to Didcot as they continued to press and when Bartley saw his effort ruled out for offside on the hour mark, this should have been a warning to Boro. Three minutes later, and arguably the goal of the game as substitute Mortimer-Jones, took advantage of a half cleared corner to volley home into the top right hand corner, a stunning strike and one that gave the hosts renewed hope. Further chances for the hosts were restricted to efforts from distance, causing little danger to Jordan in Boro's goal, and the visitors really should have put the match to bed late on, Kezie Ibe cleverly played in by Jack King taking too long on the ball allowing Williams to make a well timed tackle, and in the closing minutes, Jack King failed by millimeters to get on the end of McMahon's probing corner and Ibe denied by Trott right at the death. Solid performances from returning skipper Steve Robinson and Gary Holloway and a marked improved team performance was the reaction that Steve King was looking for and albeit not a comprehensive scoreline he was pleased to have seen his side get back to creative ways ahead of Tuesday night's difficult trip to Cambridge City. Boro: Jordan, Braham-Barrett, Doyle, King, Robinson (Steve), Stevens, McMahon, Holloway, Ibe, McDonald (Bubb, 85), McCollin (Ciardini,69) Subs Not Used: Price, Dobson Robinson (Stuart) Att: 384
